Saturday 26 August 2006

Saturday - on the road, up to Martinez.

Friday 25 August 2006

Friday - some friends and I went to the opening day of the fair, and had a good time. More later.

Thursday 24 August  2006

Thursday - got some stress numbers for the part, and they were too high. Then I realized it was a stress riser, a concentration around a bolt hole, probably a FEM artifact, and that the rest of the piece was OK. But it got me to thinking, and I'll make a couple of changes tomorrow.

Lots of bunny rabbits running about the complex in the early evening, stars overhead. Nice.

I'm going to hire someone to redo the brightwork on the boat. I'm just too busy right now to get down and spend the three or four days that it would take to do it. Bah. I actually like painting and varnishing: there's a tremendous return on the small amount of labor involved. But I need to work on plumbing and electrical, so it's the best thing to do for right now.

After all, it's a boat - all that brightwork will need "touching up" by next year!

And who knows, I may actually go sailing one of these days.

Wednesday 23 August 2006

Wednesday - keeping busy. Preliminary results due on Friday ( and why do I do this to myself? ), so I am staying late a lot. But I did stop off at the local Black Angus to meet with a couple of guys from work , for a beer.

I'm a lightweight, two Sam Adams' is my limit. One of the guys went to school in Montreal - he drinks like a fish and shows no effects whatsoever. The other shows some effects - but he starts early with a couple of margarita's before switching to beer. Sheesh.

I stopped by the drug store and picked up some Lanacane on the way home Tuesday, and it helps with the bug bites a lot.

Tuesday 22 August 2006

Tuesday - the bug bites from Sunday's hike are killing me. Yesterday they weren't bad, today they itch like crazy. Mosquito bites, even though I put on lotion. But it was warm and humid and I suppose I sweated the stuff off. And it was old lotion - from this time last year at least, and perhaps longer.

Hot today, 104F.

 Monday 21 August 2006

Monday - back at work.

Sunday 20 August 2006

Sunday - went down and visited the boat. I got a late start, and then spent some time discussing some work stuff with a friend, so no time to go sailing :-(  On the other hand, the boat was dry and tight, no leaks.

Went for a hike on the Chumash Trail, by Point Mugu. We got a late start and the sun set into the ocean as we got to the top of the mountain. We could hear 'Taps' playing from the base. Stars, ocean, islands, a very nice scene. I brought my el cheapo miners lamp (that I bought a few weeks back for Mt. Whitney) and it made the trip down the steep trail a lot easier.

Mt. Whitney in two weeks....
