Saturday 21 July 2007

Saturday - back in Lancaster. The house looks OK.

I'm feeling beat, but I picked up the mail and did some shopping.

The side lawn looks better, I think the fungicide is working, but I'll hit it again tomorrow.

Friday 20 July 2007

Friday - I was trying to get home to Lancaster to get some registered mail, but couldn't.

There was an overturned semi on the I-5 and because of that traffic on the 126 was backed up to Fillmore. Sheesh. I waited a couple of hours - drove to Ojai and back - and it was worse, backed up to Santa Paula. I thought about going down to the 118 and over, but the radio said the 14/5 interchange was blocked for miles. Rather than drive all the way up the 101 and over, or out to the 15 and back I elected to stay in town, on the boat.

It was a nice evening, but the mosquito's were out. Fortunately I'd had the foresight to buy bug spray last year and applied it after the first dozen bites or so.

Thursday 19 July  2007

Thursday - I visited the boat, and it looked OK. But dirty. I need to wash it again, and the brightwork needs some major touching up. There is a lot I need to do, but hopefully I'll have time now.

I also checked and found that there is abundant free wireless around. Some is due to people leaving their access point open, but one is the local boatyard which apparently is using it as advertisement. Cool. A year ago there was nothing.

I'm afraid to check my mail though, or do anything that requires passwords or identification. A lot of that stuff goes out as clear text still. I need to check into how to safely access mail through open wifi spots.

Somebody had a bad day. There was a smallish sailboat, 25 or 27 feet in length, washed up on the beach north of Channel Islands harbor. I wonder what happened? There were people about, but I figured they had better things to do than answer stupid questions from me. It looked undamaged, perhaps they were waiting for high tide? I took a picture with my lousy camera phone, we'll see how that turns out.

Wednesday 18 July 2007

Wednesday - busy.

Tuesday 17 July 2007

Tuesday - busy. Looking at reports and project descriptions.

 Monday 16 July 2007

Monday - things went OK, I think. Indeed people mocked me for my tie, so it came off at lunchtime, after I'd spoken to 'the big boss'. After all, he was in jeans himself... I mostly met people and got a feel for the personnel and jobs and pace.

Sunday 15 July 2007

Sunday - a busy day, running around, trying to take care of everything. But really, it wasn't necessary, I'm only gone for a week. But I did need to find some "good" clothes to wear for the first day at work, and shoes, and a tie, and all the rest. Then picking and choosing between books to bring down to study.

I also had to spray the lawns for fungicide and such, and to fertilize them. And it was hot, so that was yucky.

I finally got out of Lancaster about 6:00 pm, only six hours later than my first estimate!
