Saturday 5 December  2015
Saturday - OTR.  Still in Ventura.

I was pretty tired by the end of inspection yesterday, but still had some things to do around town.

One thing was to go down to the marina, check on the boat, and pay my slip fees. I also showed them that my documentation status was still "pending" with the Coast Guard, months after I had sent in my money and paperwork, and they were OK with that it seems.

The boat was fine, so I had a beer and some "Cup Noodles". S had mentioned to me some time ago that they were no longer "Cup O' Noodles", and hadn't been for decades, and upon checking she was (as usual) correct.

The beer was cold because I'd left the fridge plugged in, which resulted in a $20 electric bill this month. I unplugged it and most things before I left. I tossed some rather fuzzy bagels, but brought the margarine back to the Larkin address.

By this time  I was too tired to go back to Lancaster, so just decided to stay in Ventura over the weekend. This was the original plan, back at the start of this job, but with one thing and another I haven't really been able to keep to the plan.

I have a sore left foot. I stepped on a nail or something, back in October, and after an initial soreness the foot seemed to heal and caused me no trouble on the Grand Canyon hike in early November. But it's come back and there's a noticeable bump and infection, and while I can still walk it's still pretty painful. So I went by the local Urgent Care, poked my head in and looked at the sniffling and diseased crowd for a bit, then just went to a local CVS pharmacy and picked up some Epsom Salts to soak the foot in over the weekend.

I had initially planned to work on the boat - pull the sails off, do some varnish work, check the batteries, etc, but decided that just sitting around, reading and watching TV was better for the foot than that.

If I can't walk I can't inspect, if I can't inspect I'll lhave to quit the job. That said, it was already better by the evening.

I also bought some food supplies for next week while I was out.

I also finally bought a Bluetooth mouse for the laptop - the MacBook Pro USB ports don't have enough oomph to run USB mice, and I usually don't bring the USB amplifier gizmo with me (one more thing to plug into my single working outlet in the room), and the $9 mouse I bought for the Win8 tablet won't work with it, so I finally shelled out some money for a Logitech mouse. That works fine.

Friday December 2015
Friday - OTR.  Inspecting.

The client and contractor are continuing to dicker about the extension, but the job is going to continue, so I went up to a new reach to check the survey and DigAlert stuff. Which was incomplete, again. I told the contractor, but it's going to be interesting on Monday, because he's supposed to bring on a new third crew, so I'll be hopping back and forth.

Today the big problem to resolve didn't start until nearly a half hour into the job :-) Crazy stuff, the plans showed a lateral going one direction, it actually went exactly opposite, to a different location....

With the various issues it's turned into almost a full time job. I've talked with the project management, and they know what I'm up against, so I guess it's all cool. Where I can I'll try to save hours, but I guess we'll have to reconcile things at the end of the job.

I also did some work on reports, and getting everything in order for next week out there. Like I said, it'll be busy.

Tim's off on a cruise to Ensenada for the weekend, but I was able to reach him for a few questions. I hope he has a good time and doesn't worry about this stuff.

Thursday 3 December 2015
Thursday - OTR.  Inspecting.

There's a new problem every day. In the morning the superintendent actually came up to me with a list of issues at 7:30am, while I was still lacing my boots...

I did have a minor success, where I was able to get the Engineer's OK to not use slurry in certain situations. This saves on the cost of slurry, but more importantly it also saves a lot of time. Safety is very important, and contamination of the water supply lines by nearby sanitary sewer is always something to worry about, but the newer materials: 20' sticks of jointless PVC instead of clay pipes jointed every four feet with concrete allows the use of a different section of specifications.

Very tired when I got home. A three shots of Jameson's evening.

Wednesday 2 December 2015

Wednesday - OTR. Inspecting.

I was paid, which is nice, and I in turn sent off a check to my landlord (a little late, but I had trouble getting his address, up to now I just handed it to Tim) and to a couple of credit card companies.
Tuesday 1 December 2015
Tuesday - OTR.  Inspecting.

Monday  30 November 2015
Monday - OTR.  Inspecting

Sunday 29 November  2015
Sunday - OTR. Slept in a bit. did some chores, did some shopping then left for Ventura in the afternoon.

One chore was to turn on the heater in the turtle tank,  the water temperature was down to about 60F, and Gimpy was showing signs of wanting to hibernate...
