Saturday 18 September   2021

Saturday - Not too hot. There was a pretty big cloud of smoke over the valley in the morning, much like a marine layer, which kept it cooler than predicted early

Went out and dug out around the back yard step some more, so that I can extend the pathway around it.  I even compacted the earth with the hand compaction tool.

Three hours and I was pretty hot and tired. Base and sand and paver's will have to wait a few days.

The SpaceX private mission to space did their re-entry and splashdown in the afternoon, looks like it went well.

Book #49 was Tarnished Knight, by Jack Campbell.  This is set in the same time frame as the Lost Fleet series with Black Jack Geary, but as seen from the viewpoint of the 'bad guys' turned 'kind of good guys' Syndicate CEO's in the Midway star system. Not bad.

It is (so far) a trilogy, and the library has all three, but I have to wait for people to finish Books #2 and #3.  I wish they'd learn to move their lips faster...

Friday 17 September 2021

Friday - Not too hot.  Down into the 50's overnight, which was nice.  Smoke from somewhere - the fires in Sequoia perhaps?

Not too much going on, working on various things.

I'd bought a used Nagler 7mm eyepiece from someone on Cloudy Night, and it arrived, well packed.  There's some dust and a bit of a fingerprint on it, but some cleanser should take care of that.

Between the nearly full moon and the smoke there isn't much point in going out to observe, sadly.

Thursday 16 September 2021

Thursday - Warm, in the high 80s.  Winds were predicted to be high, but weren't.

Dave showed, we had a nice Taco lunch at the cantina down the street, and we transferred the data off the old hard drive without any issues.

Dave is kind of cursed when it comes to computers, so that was actually a bit of a surprise.

My brother texted to say that he'd gotten his covid booster on Wednesday and was really aching today.  Yikes.

Thought about going out for a bit of observing, but was tired and just went to bed at 10pm.

Wednesday 15 September 2021

Wednesday - Hot, but not crazy hot.

Not too much going on.  I had to loosen and re-do the guys on the rest of the tree's out in front, the tree's have grown enough that the guys were causing a bow in their trunks.  Weird, I just looked a couple of weeks ago and things were fine.

I did a bunch of cleaning, mopped the floors and cleaned the bathrooms.

Dave said he wants to come up tomorrow and get some data off of a hard drive from a windows machine that died.  It was a small form factor Dell, and it's worth less than the cost of a new specialized power supply, so...

Had to put some air in the left rear tire of the Ram, looks like some sort of slow leak in that tire.

The passenger rated tires just suck.

Tuesday 14 September  2021

Tuesday - Hot.

S sent me a new specification, V.4, so I'll have to  look at that.

Now that the good printer has toner I can actually print things out, which is nice.

Saw the neighbor drive by, he just bought a Ford 8N tractor, with front loader and a box scraper in back (gannon?). He's wanted one for years.

Did my quarterly taxes and some bills.

Went into town and dropped off my ballot at the box next to the fire station.  It was surprisingly busy.

They were already predicting that Newsom will survive the recall attempt by mid-evening.  Even the solidly red counties were reporting that, which tells you that the vote count was pretty much a corrupt and foregone conclusion.  I didn't expect anything else.

Not too exciting of a day.

Monday 13 September 2021

Monday - Hot.

Doing more laundry, this time the linens.  On the last load, on spin dry, the washer started making a high pitched squeal.  Great.

S texted to stay she's working on fonts for the new app. Did a little work myself.

Went next door for brats with the neighbors, watched the first Monday Night Football game of the season, Raiders & Carr vs the Ravens & Alexander.  Two good and well matched teams. The Raiders won, though now that they've moved to Vegas it doesn't mean as much to me as it did.  Though I was always a 'Niners guy first.

Book #48 was Triumphant (Genesis Fleet #3), by Jack Campbell.

This, and the previous two books btw, were all free via the Los Angeles County Library, and Libby, and read through Amazon and the Kindle app.

Sunday 12 September 2021

Sunday - Hot.

I went without S in the morning, since she was out of town. I forgot a bunch of stuff, and had to go back for it: cat food and kitty litter.

I went next door and picked up a few things at Lowe's, but they were, as usual, out of stuff that I had planned to get. I picked up a few lengths of PT lumber for a planter out in back, and some more bark/ground cover.

Did some dishes, and some laundry.

S says she made it home OK.  Looks like they jumped right onto the 'Route' fire and it never got past a few hundred acres burned.

It was hot enough that I didn't get much done later - not oven hot, but I find myself unwilling to labor for long outside in the heat, knowing that in a couple of weeks it won't be quite so awful.

My friend Tim, who had his 2nd Pfizer shot last week has come down with Covid this week.  Sheesh! He said it isn't too terrible, like a bad chest cold, so that's good.
