Saturday 24 September 2016
Saturday - Warmish, maybe 90F later in the day.

Went for a longish hike in the morning, ten miles.  The weather was nice, 70-80F, and apart from some "hot spots" on the feet, and a little aggravation of the sunburn, no problems.

The Brahma boots aren't ventilated, so the feet tend to get moist and cause the socks to stick.  I do the sock liner thing, but talking to S at lunch she recommended using talcum powder as well.  I'd tried something before without a lot of success, but she said that talcum won't turn into 'mud' like some foot powders which are made up of corn starch.  Maybe I'll give that a try.

Friday 23 September 2016
Friday - Warm.

Just working away on things.

I read a little bit of the latest Destroymen book, Blood in the Waters, but just haven't been able to get into it. Maybe this weekend.

Thursday 22 September 2016
Thursday - Cool, and extremely windy by the afternoon.

I didn't get up early enough to drive out to where there wood be an unobstructed view of the horizon.  ( Well, actually I did, but it would have meant doing that before my coffee, and that's just not going to happen. )

G stopped by before class and mowed the back yard.  He was going to come back in the afternoon and trim some stuff, but as it was then blowing about 45mph we canceled that until next week. He has other stuff to do over the weekend.

S stopped by and picked up the new version on her way to work. Later in the day she called, said the kids liked it.  There were a couple of minor things that need addressing, some easy and some that might take some discussion on how to approach.

I did more punchlist stuff, but that list is getting smaller.

Yahoo has just admitted that they got hacked - two years ago - and that everyone should change their account info.  Two years.  There has to be some sort of civil or criminal liability for that sort of delay.

Wednesday 21 September 2016

Wednesday - Warm.

Working away on the app. I fixed a couple of small things on the Vocabulary level, and some other small improvements here and there: missing drop shadows, buttons in the wrong place, and so on.

I told S there was a new version ready and she'll pick it up for trials tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the Vernal Equinox.  If I get up early enough I might head out to the west valley and take a picture of the sun coming up along the road. Taking a picture at sundown doesn't work, because of the hills to the west.

Not much else going on.  I have G coming over tomorrow for some yard work.

I probably won't get a walk in.  My calves are pretty sunburnt - I could wear long pants but that's a bit uncomfortable too. Maybe Friday or Saturday. Other than the burn things are OK.  I actually bring two bandanna's with me on walks, and towards the end of the hike I tied them about my lower legs.  It looked weird, and was a bit late, but it helped protect them.

I cannot find my little hydration pack.  I have daypacks: no hip belt, and backpacks: too big, but the hydration pack I bought a few years ago is missing.  Oddly I have the water bladder still...

Tuesday 20  September 2016
Tuesday - Warm, but not crazy hot.

Worked on the app all day, 8 am until about 7pm, and pretty much finished the Vocabulary Level functionality.  There are some minor graphics issues, but things are working and look OK.

That's the last of the "levels".  There is some other stuff to be done, and I need to find the memory leak - maybe I can bring the app code over to the other ancient Mac Mini and see it it's compiler will do symbolic tracing?

It looks like archaeologists have found the HMS Terror, the remaining unfound ship from Sir John Franklin's expedition, lost 168 years ago.  It was, surprising to the scientists (but not to the Inuit), sitting upright in good condition on the bottom of the Terror Bay at King Williams Island.

Monday 19 September  2016
Monday - Warming up again.

I worked on the app, fixing a couple of bugs in the morning, then starting on the Vocabulary Level after lunch.  It's the remaining level, and should be pretty straightforward.

I did have to go over and talk to the neighbor at 23:30, he was working on his car suspension, pounding, banging and drilling. He said it had broken during the day and that he had to have it for his work commute to LA in four hours....

Sunday 18 September 2016
Sunday - Cooler than it has been, at least in the morning.

I decided to do a moderate hike, six or seven miles but it was so nice out (at first) that I ended up going 12+ miles.

I did take a break every couple of miles, shade permitting. About ten minutes - more than that and my muscles would start to stiffen.

The problem was coming back, in the heat, with not much shade, and not enough water or sunscreen - I was walking pretty slow by the time I returned to the house and just laid down under the a/c for an hour.  I brought 2L of water, and drank it all.  Another 2 would have been nice, and I would have brought lunch, rather that a couple of ounces of raisins, had I expected to be hiking that long.

No health issues: no blisters, no Achilles heel issues, no painful knee. Yay!

I didn't do much of anything in the afternoon and evening, for some reason.
