Saturday 6 February 2021

Saturday - OTR.

Friday 5 February 2021

Friday - Another decent day.

My brother invited me up to watch the game, so I spent most of the day packing and cleaning before the trip.  Not much to say until I get back next week.

Thursday 4 February 2021

Thursday - A pleasant day.

I 'finished' cleaning the kitchen counters, (though not the floor, with my back that's a separate days work), and the hall bath. I also reassembled the out back fence, it goes quick after this many reps, though some of the pipe rails are now bent.

I did go into town to do some errands:

  1. buy gift cards to replace the ones I've misplaced at Xmas
  2. gassed up the truck
  3. bought some new slippers
  4. bought a new programmable electric heater
  5. mailed some letters & bills & cards
  6. bought some standard colored tee's at Target
  7. bought a pressure treated 2x4 for a job

Those errands marked in bold are the ones that I was able to successfully complete. Three out of seven actually feels like a win, which says something about the retail sales environment in Lancaster.

Fueling the truck for example: the local market has installed new vapor gaskets, so the fueling can only proceed at a snails pace, even on the lowest detent the overflow lever would trip forcing me to stand there and manually adjust and squeeze just a bit to get a trickle out.  After 10m to get three or four gallons I decided to fuel up the rest of the way in town. The first gas station there that I tried to use had construction in the road around it, and I wasn't positioned to get into it.  So I decided to get it on the way out of town.  That station had work being done on it's tanks and was closed...

So I'll try again tomorrow or the next day.

Wednesday 3 February 2021

Wednesday - A decent day.

Spent more time working on the tax stuff.  Sadly (happily?) I did not have enough medical expenses to make itemizing a good idea.  So I'm out of pocket quite a bit. Still it's good to be mostly done with all that work.

I did a bit of cleaning in the house - kitchen sideboards and the like.  Things get pretty dusty after five gales...

Did some vacuuming elsewhere.

I did a few more bills.

The boat documentation from the Coast Guard came in, which is nice.  Stuck it in a file.

Tuesday 2 January  2021

Tuesday - Gray and overcast.

Did some cleaning in the kitchen, and the bedrooms.

Watched via streaming the SpaceX test flight for SN9, "Eileen Dover".  It went well at first, but once again they had an engine out on landing.  This time it was a pretty spectacular explosion, as they crashed in a horizontal attitude, so everything got smushed and exploded at once.  Lots more pieces flying through the air...

Started collecting medical expenses.  The banks are screwing with people again, just a years worth of records easily available - even a year or two ago they kept two or three years worth.  And by "year" I mean the previous 12 statements, even if that means the collection starts in mid-year.

And the bank I use for online bill pay "improved" their interface.  Before it was a list of entities, and text boxes.  You entered the amount you wanted to pay in the box for each entity, pressed PAY, got a dialog with a confirmation screen so you can check for off-by-10 or off-by-100 values, and another final PAY button.  Quick and straightforward.

Now the list is still there, but bloated with an icon for each entity.  It takes almost 15 seconds to load.  Then you have to select an entity, go to a separate screen, put in the amount, change the bank account because it's now defaulting to the wrong on, press pay, wait 15 seconds, then go back to the main screen...and start all over again.

Book #10 would be Spellbound (Grimnoir #2), by Larry Correia. Entertaining.

Monday 1 February 2021

Monday - Just another day.

It apparently sprinkled overnight, so the chair cushions I left out to dry are damp again.

Started collecting some info for taxes - the mutual funds should have their statements by now, by law, though sometimes they don't.

Did a bit of clean up in the garage, it was getting impassable again.

Also put in some small thin brick pavers along the garage wall, where there was a gap with dirt from the 5'4" dimensions the previous owner poured the slab, mostly filled by the 11.75" garden pavers.

Sunday  31 January  2021

Sunday - A normal day rather "blah" winters day.

Did not do the usual shopping with S, we are both pretty well stocked up.

It feels strange not getting up before 6am and heading out.  Being a creature of habit I did have the same breakfast as always, despite having plenty of time for bacon and eggs and such.

Book #9 was Hard Magic (Grimnoir #1), by Larry Correia.  Pretty good.

I did more on the walkway yesterday, but just just didn't feel like it today.  It's Sunday after all, and tomorrow is a new week.

It was sort of annoying too, the problem with stopping on a project for weeks is that you forget things...like the foundation being too shallow for certain plans. Bah.

My brother invited me up to Carson City to watch the game.  Considering it. Weather along the way seems OK right now.
