Saturday 13 June  2020

Saturday - Working away on various things. Laundry, a day early, because I want to mop the floors tomorrow (they really need it).

I'm pretty tired of being housebound, but they say that CV is making a comeback.  Except when they say it isn't.  Fortunately I have a mask, which they recommend, except when they don't...

The CDC and WHO have burned their credibility to the ground with all of this.

And of course there are politicians looking the other way while huge crowds riot and protest, while cracking down on the (safe to crack down on) normies.

Book #27 was Cursed (AV #2), by Benedict Jacka.  I mean, I had to read the second book just to see that the first wasn't just a fluke, right?

Friday 12 June  2020

Friday - Warm and windy.

I haven't actually written much about the winds, but it's been terrible here.  Howling and whistling around the house, day and night, 25, 35, 45mph...  I actually woke up and went and slept on the couch the other night, the wind sounds in the master bedroom just being too obnoxious.

I downloaded and read the first in the Alex Verus series.  This is fantasy, with the protagonist being a wizard of sorts, in modern day London.  Well done. The person who recommended it says they get darker in tone later.

Book #26 was Fated (AV #1), by Benedict Jacka. Enjoyable!

Thursday 11 June 2020

Thursday - Warm.  Worked on computer stuff, too hot to work outdoors.

Got a text from my brother in Palmdale, his willow tree is dying, probably needs to come down.  I know that R&S had beetles in their mature willows, and they all eventually had to come down despite years of expensive treatment.  That kind of sucks.

I need to start on taxes and stuff soon.

Saw an article about a destroyer and cruiser returned to port after 267 days at sea underway. The USN had C-19 reasons, but they are still overworking the fleet, both ships and men.  There is going to be another accident like in 2017 if this keeps up.

Wednesday 10 June 2020

Wednesday - Warm again.

Glen and I spent about 4 hours working in the yard, dog and rabbit proofing things.

I was pretty wiped out afterwards.

S texted that she did the business paperwork, and deposited the checks.  Because the State of California has it's collective head up it's *ss the paperwork took far far longer than it should have, as usual.

Book #25 was Strike the Blood #8, by Gakuto Mikumo.  Apparently there are a couple dozen of these.

I've been looking for easy beach reading, these will fit the bill. There are also a couple of new-to-me Tim Powers books, and someone has mentioned the Alex Verus series to be good reading.  Add in Jerry Pournelle's posthumous Mamelukes, and probably the three books before it, and I'm set, kindle-wise.

Tuesday 9 June  2020

Tuesday -Warm again.

Glen came by and we spent about three hours working on things., after I got back from a trip to the hardware store.

After cooling down and taking a nap I did a bit of work in the west office.

Did I mention that Corona Labs is gone? I had signed up to use them for cross-platform development a while back, even checked out and bought some books on Lua.  And they closed down...  I have a knack for buying into soon-to-be-abandoned computer stuff.  Very frustrating.

Anyway, back to Apple and Swift.

Monday 8 June 2020

Monday - Warm.

Glen came by and we put in about 4 hours in the yard, before it got too warm for me.  He doesn't seem to mind all that much.

Wiped out afterwards.

Book #24 was Strike the Blood #7, by Gakuto Mikumo.  This is a rather silly Japanese "light novel", but relaxing to read. I saw the comic "anime" years ago and was surprised to discover that it only covered about a quarter of the whole story.

Sunday 7 June 2020

Sunday - Warm again, maybe 90 in the afternoon, moderately windy

I  went shopping in the morning for groceries, with S.

I also gave her a check, for my half of the business registration in California.  You might think that the state would give small businesses a break what with the pandemic and closures...you'd be wrong.

After getting home I did a few chores, laundry and such.
