Saturday 20  October  2018
Saturday - A nice day.

My arms and hands ache.  The muscle pain is one thing, but I have to be careful of the hands, there is a lot of work still to be done before winter. So, not soffit work, no yard work, no garage work, no inside-the-house work, for a day or two.

Frustrating.

Friday 19 October 2018
Friday - Pleasant weather still.

An old acquaintance from NASA, E, stopped by and we talked for a bit.  He only lives a couple of miles away, and had some interesting information about the area.  I was a little embarrassed by the condition of the place, but he was cool about it.

I took the good weather opportunity to caulk a bunch of cracks and holes up in the soffit, at the front of the house, and to patch the fascia.  This took about 6 hours on a ladder, and I was beat by the time it was done.

I want to power wash the soffit before priming and painting, but don't want water getting inside the house.  There are gaps here and there where after 30 years the wood has shrunk and water could intrude.  And there was a gap the entire length of the master bedroom window between the frame and siding.  I used foam, caulk, and even some plastic wood on occasion.

There is more to do - the back and sides of the house - but I ran out of materials...

Thursday 18 October 2018
Thursday - Pleasant weather.

Dental appointment in the morning.  Ughh.  Lots of work to do...

Went for a 2.5 mile walk in the early afternoon, since it was only about 75F.  It went pretty well, though the hip area felt a bit "warm".

Wished someone else a happy birthday.  October and November seem to have a cluster of them.

Wednesday 17 October 2018

Wednesday - Nice weather, but I didn't do much, kind of tired.

Book #38 was How to tell if Your Cat Trying to Kill You, by Matthew Inman.  Amusing.  Apparently they are...

On a whim checked out upgrading the small touchscreen laptop - RAM and HD are both easily upgradeable, supposedly. I have no need to do it though.

Tuesday 16 October 2018
Tuesday - Pleasant weather. Down near 40F at sunrise, but warming up.

My brother texted that it was 18F in Carson City.  Brrrr.

Went for a 1.5 mile walk, no issues this time, hip or foot.  Sent my brother a selfie of myself in a t-shirt while out on the walk...

Monday 15 October 2018
Monday - Another nice day.

Working away on the app, doing some reading and research on things for the most part.

I thought about upgrading the HP laptop.  Oddly it seems that the particular type of RAM it uses is out of stock at both Kingston and Crucial.  The hard drive would be easy to replace with an SSD.

Sunday 14 October 2018
Sunday - Cool in the morning - wool shirt weather, again, for a few hours.

Did my shopping, not too much stuff.

Saw a hot air balloon floating over WinCo.  S says it is the balloon they took their ride in last new years, there being a distinctive American flag motif to the balloon envelope.

A friends birthday, I texted (he didn't pick up) and wished him the best.

I have been watching Jim watch Budd at Budd's food dish.  Jim is on a specialty diet, but craves the stuff that makes him throw up.  He's cautious around Budd, but hunger has been getting the better of him and he's been getting closer and closer to Budd while that worthy feline eats. Finally today he stuck his head into the bowl alongside Budd and started eating.  Budd was slightly surprised, but not upset, giving Jim's head a little lick or two before going back to his own meal.
